Hilary is a PhD student in Theological Studies at Vanderbilt University with a minor in Religion, Psychology and Culture and a graduate certificate in Women's and Gender Studies. She has an MDiv from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Theology & Ethics with a concentration in Peace Studies. Broadly speaking, she is interested in the relationship of traumatic experience to religious faith, praxis and movements for liberation. Her research tends to the intersection of liberation theologies (broadly conceived), ritual theory, trauma theory and theo-poetics. It is deeply informed by her ongoing work with survivors of sexualized violence and her previous collaboration through Christian Peacemaker Teams with local organizers in Iraqi Kurdistan striving for just peace in the midst of relentless war. Hilary is the Public Educator for OurStoriesUntold.com, a blog that provokes conversation about sexualized violence in religious contexts and extends support and community to people who have experienced that violence. She is also a founding member of SNAPmenno, the Mennonite chapter of Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests.
